THE PETREL STATION TRIP REPORT

Had an EPIC day out at The Petrel Station on the latest pelagic seabird trip (offshore from Tutukaka, in northern New Zealand), with 7 of us venturing out via the Poor Knight Islands to the explore the trench area beyond. Wind and swell picked up in afternoon providing excellent viewing of a great diversity of seabirds.

Highlights of the trip were:

  • 1 x Blue Petrel

  • 1 x Thin-billed Prion

  • 5 x Broad-billed Prion

  • 15 x Antarctic Prion

  • 1 x Soft-plumaged Petrel

  • 1 x Arctic Tern

During the trip we saw 25 different seabird species, and nearly 4,000 stunning seabirds in total! A fantastic day out.
